Open Enrollment

WELCOME

This is your annual opportunity to enroll in coverage or make changes to your current elections. Changes made during Open Enrollment are effective January 1, 2027. All forms are due to HR no later than December 14.

During Open Enrollment you can:

  • Enroll in medical, dental/vision, voluntary benefits, and/or life and disability plans
  • Change or cancel your existing coverage for medical, dental/vision, and/or life and disability
  • Add dependents to or remove dependents from your coverage

Note: If you are enrolling a new dependent, you will need to submit dependent verification in the form of a birth, adoption, or marriage certificate. This documentation must be submitted to Human Resources via email, along with your enrollment form.

Please make sure to review both your current elections and the 2027 offerings. No action is necessary if you do not want to make any changes to your current medical, dental/vision, and/or life and disability plans.

Elections you make during Open Enrollment will remain in place through 2027 unless you experience a qualifying life event. These events include:

  • Marriage or divorce
  • The birth of a child
  • The death of a dependent
  • A change in your job status

2027 Benefit Enhancements

Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs): Chugach is introducing three tax-advantaged FSAs to help you save money throughout the year.

  • Healthcare FSA: Set aside pre-tax contributions to this account to pay for eligible health care expenses, including copays, deductibles, prescriptions, and more.
  • Dependent Care FSA: Use this account to pay for eligible daycare or elder care expenses.
  • Commuter Benefits: This account can be used for work-commute parking and/or transit costs.

Health Savings Account (HSA): When you enroll in a qualified HDHP medical plan, you may be eligible to contribute to an HSA. The account is triple-tax-advantaged and allows you to pay for eligible health care expenses now and in the future, even in retirement.

Voluntary Accident Insurance: Accidents can happen any time. You can buy Accident insurance to help pay for expenses related to unexpected accidents and injuries. The benefit amount is determined by the injury and medical care received and is paid in a lump sum amount.

Voluntary Critical Illness Insurance: Are you protected if you experience a critical illness? Critical Illness insurance is available for you to purchase during Open Enrollment. This coverage helps pay expenses related to the diagnosis of a critical illness, such as a heart attack, coma, kidney failure, or cancer. The benefit amount is determined by the type of illness and is paid in a lump sum amount.

Voluntary Hospital Indemnity Insurance: An unexpected hospital stay can be expensive, even with medical insurance. During Open Enrollment, you can purchase Hospital Indemnity insurance to help pay for expenses and bills related to being admitted or confined in a hospital. Benefits are paid directly to you, and the funds can be used as you see fit.
